The Monster Series

How would we be, if instead of hiding from our dark sides, we embraced them?

Psychologist Carl Jung called the dark sides our “shadow”: the parts of ourselves we would rather not see, like anger, fear, envy, and shame. We push them into the dark, hoping they will disappear. But they remain, shaping us from the places we refuse to look.

Jung believed that becoming whole requires us to face these hidden parts by bringing them into consciousness.

This series is my way of doing that.

I give my shadow sides colour and form with horns and teeth, and too many eyes. Only by giving my fears a face can I begin to overcome them. Only by shining a light on my shadows can I come to understand who I truly am.

First shown in Face Your Monster, a dual show with Anca Bautista at Good Sh*t Coffee, Poblacion, Makati, Philippines, 2026.
